About

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been a studio artist for more than twenty years, working in printmaking, drawing, collage, and mixed media. My work has been shown in galleries around this country and in Italy. I was twice been Artist-in-Residence with the University of Georgia Studies Abroad program in Cortona, Tuscany, and had a solo show in Cortona in May 2004. Since moving to Lowell, Massachusetts, in 2003, I have exhibited in numerous solo, juried, and invitational shows here.

I am a founding member of the Arts League of Lowell, and served as Director and Curator of the ALL Arts Gallery from 2005 through 2008. I maintain a home printmaking studio, as well as a studio at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, where I am a regular exhibitor at the Loading Dock Gallery.

My work is often concerned with depths of perception: what can be seen immediately or on the “surface”? What can be perceived by looking deeper, longer? Where does meaning reside, or hide? The media I work in repeat and reinforce the idea of levels of seeing: the drawings are the result of free mark-making that seeks and gradually discovers imagery, while the collagraph plates and mixed-media pieces are built of layers of cut paper, a kind of bas-relief, that obscures and reveals in turn the deeper levels of the piece.
